In the busy streets of Marihan Bazaar, Mirzapur, when Mr. Srivastav and his daughter removed their old, roughly painted “Gulal Sarees” board, rumors of business shutting down spread like wildfire. Throughout the street, thriving shop owners started making vulturous plans of buying his unsold goods or his shop at throwaway prices. Little did they know, next morning was going to be a whole new unthinkable ordeal.

His daughter, Preeti, was a marketing professional and decided to put her learnings to some good use. At sharp 8 am in the morning, a new shining board embossed with the brand’s name, in italics, was propped up. With glaring bright red color artistically splurged across it dimensions, it was happily basking in its new found glory.

The inaugural day saw a throng of people swarming the little shop and business accelerated.

An even more interesting scenario triggered a few weeks later. People across Mirzapur, were found carrying the same board design printed on non woven bags. Soon, orders started pouring in from across India and the red logo of Gulal, had now become a trusted Mirzapur specialty.

This, is the power of branding.

In today’s world, with “exclusive FMCG products” popping up in every nook and corner of the city, it is imperative for brands to attack a whole new perspective. Thus, entered the experience of its cover. Harnessing the power of packaging, the competition in this market has regurgitated with wit and humor.

After the success of our first post (Top 10 Creative Product Packaging Designs), we decided to list a few of the clever packaging ideas which have caught our attention. The idea was to bank on the literal meaning of the product- “Pun Packaging”, as I would like to christen this style.

The word, “breakfast” has its origin in the Christian custom of breaking fast, from food between the supper meal of one day and receiving Holy Communion the following morning. This brand incorporated the pun into its packaging, copyright and shape. Cereal-ly killing its competition with wittiness.
